About Us

Our Philosophy

St. James’ Preschool offers a program that is developmentally appropriate for children ages 2-5 years old. We stress a multi-disciplinary approach that involves the whole child. We believe that a child’s work is play and he/she learns actively through all the senses. We offer opportunities for growth in the following areas:

*Language and literacy development

*Physical developmentIMG_1695-2

*Fine motor skills

*Mathematics skills

*Science and social studies

*The arts

We also include a special focus on the social and emotional development of each child as they learn to work and play together as a class community.

St. James’ Preschool is an outreach of the St. James’ Church of Parkton MD, where Christian values are emphasized and a weekly chapel service is held in the church. We welcome families of all religious backgrounds to bring their children to St. James’ Preschool and share their beliefs and special observances.

Hours of Operation

We are open Monday-Friday, from 7am-6pm. We are open year-round and offer summer camps from mid-June through mid-August. We follow the Baltimore County school year schedule for most closings, including Christmas and Easter break. Please see our school calendar for more information.

Program Options

We offer full time and part time programs for children ages 2-5 years. We have a Preschool Day option, where children are dropped off at 9 am and are picked up at 12:30pm. We also have a full day option, where children can be dropped off at 7am and picked up by 6 pm. Children can attend school for 2, 3, or 5 days a week. We strongly recommend Pre-K children attend school for 3 or 5 days a week.

The preschool portion of our day is from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm, where your child will be in a class based upon their age and will participate in activities like circle time, projects, and special classes like music, library and chapel. One unique factor to a St. James’ education is that class sizes are small, with no more than 10 children in the 3’s and Pre-K classes, and no more than 5 children in the 2’s class. This enables us to provide an abundance of individual attention to your child, which is hugely beneficial during these formative years. Your child’s teacher will get to know your child’s individual needs and will plan activities accordingly to help them learn and grow in their own unique way.

Carpool will take place at 8:45 am. Please enter our preschool entrance from York Rd. and pull around to the back door. We will take your child’s backpack, lunch and other items and will escort your child inside the school. Carpool also takes place at 12:30 for preschool-day children. Carpool is optional and is intended to help make morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups run more smoothly for families and children.

Snow Days

We make snow day decisions independent of Baltimore County. If there is inclement weather the decision to close will be made by 6 am. It will be posted on the website, on the St. James’ Preschool Facebook page, and an email will be sent to all families.
